Recently I have been trying to find different things to do in World of Warcraft besides my normal transmog, reputation, and mount farming. After looking at some new Battle for Azeroth class changes I started to think “What could help me level quicker when BFA launches?” See, I like power leveling my main through leveling first, then after things calm down I like to take my time through the whole story with a second toon. So after considering past launches, I thought about the most essential items for leveling. Let me take you through what I believe to be the must-have items for the Battle for Azeroth launch.
Vendor Mounts
Probably the most important thing to have when power leveling is having a vendor mount. One of the most annoying things to do while leveling is having full bags and having to make the decision of deleting items missing out on that sweet gold or taking extra time going back to a hub to sell your items. You can pick up Reins of the Traveler’s Tundra Mammoth from Mei Francis in Northrend’s Dalaran for 20k gold or 16k gold if exalted with the Kirin Tor. Another option is the Reins of the Grand Expedition Yak, which is sold by Uncle Bigpocket in Kun-lai Summit for 120k gold.
Both mounts have a vendor that you can sell and repair with, but the difference between the two is that the Grand Expedition Yak also has a transmog vendor. So if you’re like me and you always have to be matching this mount is a must-have while leveling. It’s proven that you do more damage when your transmog matches obviously. All jokes aside, the yak doesn’t give you a better advantage other than being able to transmog that leveling gear, and all you really need is that repair vendor.
Water Striders
When Battle for Azeroth launches you will not be able to fly in the new zones. Water is one of the most annoying things to deal with on ground mounts (unless you’re a Druid then you can skip all of this). Thankfully there are two mounts that you can pick up that allows you to walk on water. The easiest one to obtain is the Reins of the Azure Water Strider sold by Nat Pagle in Krasarang Wilds for 4k gold. To obtain this mount you must reach exalted with The Anglers, which will require you to do some dailies that will involve fishing, but honestly they’re not hard and don’t take long.
There is another, easier way, to get this mount, but you only have one more chance to grab it before BFA launches and it’s tied to Mists of Pandaria Time Walking. The next MoP Timewalking week begins July 10th. During the MoP Timewalking week, you can buy reputation badges for most reputations in Mists of Pandaria, including The Anglers. To get exalted from scratch it will take 105 reputation tokens which is 5250 Timewalking badges. That might seem like a lot of Timewalking badges, but you will have the Cataclysm Timewalking event and of course, the MoP event to farm up some badges. You can also purchase the reputation badges on alts and send them over to your main that you’re gathering the reputation for to make it go by quicker.
I did mention there were two mounts because there is a Reins of the Crimson Water Strider, but the amount of effort you would have to put in to farm this mount is ridiculous compared to the other Water Strider. Having to have a level 3 Fishing Shack in your Garrison and then just spam fishing for Lucky Coins and so on and so on, just isn’t worth it. Pick up the Azure Water Strider and thank me later.
Goblin Glider Kit
The name speaks for itself. These are a much-needed item to have while there is no flying. No fall damage, just jump off a mountain and glide to your heart’s desire. From what I have heard, there are a few zones in BFA that have some high mountains to use these from. Gliding half across the zone faster than you can ride there speaks for itself. You can purchase these items on the Auction House, or make them yourself as an Engineer. If you are going to purchase these, do it sooner rather than later the prices will rise. I personally have a toon specifically just for Engineering to craft these.
For those that craft these and have banks full, you can make a decent amount of gold off these the closer it gets to BFA launch. Players always forget about these wonderful things until the last minute.
Let us Know
That’s it for my must-have items for the Battle for Azeroth launch. I can’t stress enough about getting the vendor mount and the water striders. But let us know if we missed any items that could be useful for the Battle for Azeroth launch.
