Heroes of the Storm - New name of Blizzard’s MOBA title

Once known as Blizzard All-Stars, the upcoming MOBA title from Blizzard Entertainment has been renamed as Heroes of the Storm ahead of its public reveal at BlizzCon 2013 this November. The name was first rumored to be a possible World of Warcraft expansion several months ago.

For those who did not know or play Dota yet, characters from Blizzard games will be playable in Heroes of the Storm, in the veins of Dota 2 and League of Legends. There is currently no official confirmation of the game mechanics.

The publisher has released a new site and a teaser animation for the game, showing characters from WarCraft, StarCraft, and Diablo. The teaser was produced by Jon Burton of Carbot Animations. Blizzard trademarked Heroes of the Storm last month.

Below is the first trailer back when it was Blizzard All-Stars. Blizzard All-Stars was formerly called Blizzard Dota when it was announced at BlizzCon 2010, and was originally planned to launch as a mod for the then-upcoming StarCraft II.

The original Defense of the Ancients: All-Stars was a mod for WarCraft III, with Half-Life maker Valve now behind its sequel, Dota 2. Blizzard renamed Blizzard Dota in 2011, after settling a legal dispute with Valve over the rights to the Dota trademark.
