Virginia Lobbyist Among the EVE Online CSM Hopefuls

The EVE Online CSM (Council of Stellar Management) is going to be opening the polls for its next ten members on June 4th and this year’s hopefuls are, as always, a varied bunch. Case in point one: Brian Schoeneman, AKA Brisc Rubal, a career politician and lawyer currently working as a lobbyist in Virginia in the interests of maritime law.

Schoeneman’s unique real-life experience, according to an interview with him in Kotaku, makes him uniquely qualified to be elected to the Council. “If you replace ‘government’ with CCP, ‘union members’ with the player base, and ‘country’ with the game world, I’m already basically a CSM. It’s literally my day job,” said Schoeneman.

In addition to his day job, Schoeneman also has been active in EVE Online since 2006 and has been playing MMORPGs since Star Wars Galaxies in 2003, where he was named a member of the CSM-equivalent Basic Profession Correspondent for SWG. That said, he also describes himself as “nothing special” and “an F1 jockey” – a reference to him simply flying his ship where his corp commander tells him and pressing the F1 weapon to open fire.

In an effort to drum up support, Mr. Schoeneman has opened up a campaign website and has even pieced together a sort of CSM political ad, which can be seen embedded below.

Our Thoughts

Yeah, that level of experience both in MMO gaming and in real life does seem to mean that Mr. Schoeneman is pretty uniquely qualified to be named to the EVE CSM. That said, we’re not going to even attempt to get into the minds of the greater EVE Online playerbase and will just wish all the CSM candidates good luck.
